This area pays tribute to two great artistic celebrities of the second half of the 20th century. Jean Tinguely and his wife Niki de St Phalle profoundly marked Fribourg's cultural and artistic life.
It is a former tramway depot near the Fribourg Museum of Art and History that houses the Espace Jean Tinguely - Niki de Saint Phalle. It was specially laid-out to host the creations of the two artists.
Jean Tinguely was a genius of moving art. His sculptures gradually evolved towards works appealing to several senses at the same time: sight, hearing, touch and sometimes even smell.
Niki de St Phalle, a French-born artist, was Jean Tinguely's wife. Her most striking works are probably the "Nanas".
